CAFCASS stands for Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service.
Cafcass represents children in family court cases in England. This includes independently advising the family courts about what is safe for children and in their best interests.
Private law is generally used to refer to CAFCASS applications made following a divorce or separation about the arrangements for children, such as where a child will live or with whom a child will spend time.
CAFCASS received 3,848 new private law cases in June 2020 which is 230 cases (6.4%) more than the same period in 2019. These cases involved 5,838 children, which is 301 (5.4%) more children than June 2019.
