Although the way we work has changed, shifting towards remote working from face-to-face contact, we endeavour to remain providing our clients, including new clients, with highest quality, efficient and accredited service.
In common with many businesses and the UK Government one of the ways we are now working is using video conferencing software to hold remote meetings. This will allow us to see one another and talk together, possibly including other people if necessary. It can be facilitated safely and securely from our own homes and will thus ensure social distancing and self-isolation rules to be maintained.
Discounting reducing the risk of infection and spreading the Covid-19 Virus and abiding by Government decisions, there are many further benefits to remote working and video conferencing. What are the technology risks from remote meeting systems? Many firms are using remote meeting systems for team communications and meetings. These can be valuable tools to help firms operate while most people work from home, are shielded, self-isolating and social distancing.
However, there have been cases of unauthorised people hijacking meetings where the platform has not been used securely. As well as causing disruption, this may let a criminal overhear confidential communications.
To protect yourself and your personal data, we ask you to consider the following:
- If applicable, do not leave meetings set to “public”.
- Do not share passwords for access to applications, meetings or hardware.
- Do not share meeting links or post links on media that could be publicly available.
- Do not screen share with others
- Make sure that you keep remote working applications and operating systems fully updated.
- Change passwords regularly and do not use predictable passwords. You can find out more about how to select a secure password at The National Cyber Security Centre:

- Be careful about who can see or overhear what you are doing when working with sensitive information online. Be mindful of ur surroundings.
- Meetings should be private. We appreciate that it may be hard to avoid family members overhearing conversations whilst isolating or social distancing at home, but you should use your best efforts to avoid this.
- You can use a screen protector to help stop people from seeing your screen over your shoulder.
- Remember to always lock the screen when away from your computer.
By safeguarding our privacy and sensitive data, just as we would in face-to-face meetings generally, we can continue to offer ore family law services to you.
