Now passed into Law - Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020
No fault divorce system in England passing into law.
The Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Bill received Royal Assent on 15 June 2020.
This law is widely welcomed by many family law practitioners as a way to stop the blame games which can be so stressful to all those affected by divorce. The previous system also increased the risk of confrontation between clients.
The Act comes into force immediately for the purposes of conferring power to make provision by Family Procedure Rules in respect of: 1.) Section 1 (removal of the requirement to establish facts in respect of divorce) and; 2.) Section 3 (removal of the requirement to establish facts in respect of dissolution) and certain minor amendments and enabling provisions.
