Family stresses and tension during lockdown - record number of calls to NSPCC
The NSPCC and Children’s Society have called on the Government for more help.
This marks an increase of almost a third (32 per cent) on the monthly average, up from the three months prior to lockdown.
Staggeringly, the NSPCC received 8,287 contacts in May 2020. This is the highest number of contacts made to the NSPCC helpline in a single month on record.
The NSPCC stated in a recent report that parental stressors are a recognised risk factor for child maltreatment. The COVID-19 crisis has augmented this risk by introducing new challenges or aggravating existing difficulties in the lives of many parents.
CAFCASS have produced a report on parents who may be co-parenting following divorce or separation and have made new child arrangements application or enforcement application because of issues arising from the pandemic and the ‘Stay at home’ rules. You can read the report on the CAFCASS website here.
