Private Law cases, including divorce of separation, being received by Cafcass rise as compared to last year
Cafcass are important in family law courts as they represent the child in cases in England. We independently advise the family courts about what is safe for children and in their best interests.
Cafcass received a total of 4,613 new private law cases (involving 7,021 children) in July 2020 – 8.0 per cent (or 343 cases) higher than the same month the previous year. Family Law week reports the Cafcass statistics, which are published on the tenth working day of each month.
Private law demand is generally used to refer to applications made following a divorce or separation about the arrangements for children, such as where a child will live or with whom a child will spend time.
