Child-Inclusive Mediation following divorce or separation
From 1st September of this year it is important to consider the ‘voice of the child’ in family mediation cases. We are experienced and able to offer child inclusive mediation, including direct consultation with children, where parents wish and agree.
Child-inclusive mediation refers to the involvement of the child in the mediation process. This can happen by a number of ways which best suit the family and individuals concerned.
One method is where the same family mediator who discusses with the parents also interviews the child, in a one-to-one session. This gives the child an opportunity to share their thoughts, fears, wishes or feelings.
The family mediator then feeds back to the parents or can introduce the child into the mediation session alongside the parents.
A second version of child-inclusive mediation involves a child specialist who interviews the child separately to hear what the child needs to share.
