Child arrangements after divorce or separation

Child arrangements after divorce or separation

Family Law has long been concerned with including children’s needs when establishing living or contact arrangements. We focus on creating positive, safe, fair, amicable and bright future arrangements between children and their separated or divorced parents, who may be co-parenting.

Following the recommendations of the Voice of the Child Dispute Resolution Advisory Group, the Family Mediation Council and Family Mediation Standards Board recently approved the new standards for child inclusive mediation.

Nigel Clarke attended an online awareness day in August on this topic with Resolution, a respected organisation focussed on alternative constructive forms of dispute resolution for families.

This can be following a divorce or separation, when children are involved and will be impacted by the choices and decisions at stake.

Nigel has specific training on understanding the philosophy and principles of the importance of children having a voice. This includes:

  • What are the worries and fears of the parents?

  • What might be the hopes and fears of a child?

  • How to manage confidences and unexpected responses?
