Child Inclusive Mediation - what does this mean for family mediation?

As part of the new mediation standards, Nigel Clarke is trained to work with the new model for child inclusive mediation.

Following the recommendations of the:

1.) Voice of the Child Dispute Resolution Advisory Group

2.) The Family Mediation Council and the

3.) Family Mediation Standards Board

There are now recently approved standards for what is known as child inclusive mediation (CIM).

The FMC defines child inclusive mediation practice as: “opportunities for children and young people to have their voices heard directly during the process of mediation, to help them feel respected and listened to and, at their request, to assist parents or carers to receive, understand and take account of the child’s messages and/or suggestions regarding decisions and arrangements for the child.”

In short, it looks into taking account the child or young person’s feelings, thoughts and listening to their views. It allows them to tell there story and have their thoughts and feelings hears and taken into account, if appropriate.
