Family courts will also remain open. If at all possible we will be complying with the lockdown restrictions by offering virtual, remote appointments. This means we will continue to offer our successful and popular Zoom, Skype and Teams videoconferencing appointments, or appointments by telephone. These can be flexible, confidential and minimise risk of infection.

The government has confirmed that solicitors can meet clients in their firms, if absolutely necessary, during the second lockdown.

However, solicitors and law firm staff should work from home if at all possible. If this is not possible, they may leave home to work in the office. The guidance states that solicitors must try to see clients remotely and deliver services virtually, but again if this is not possible then face-to-face meetings are permitted.

The Law Society is seeking clarification as to whether solicitors can attend a vulnerable client’s home, for example to deal with a private client matter such as lasting power of attorney.
