Resolution reports early legal advice is needed to soften divorce

Alarming statistics show that 41% of those divorced within the last 5 years have suffered multiple episodes of poor mental health, compared to 29% among those who got divorced more than 5 years ago.

Even more concerningly, of those 41%, just over half reported having suicidal thoughts (54%). The Resolution-commissioned YouGov survey gained responses for more than 1,000 divorcees.

Juliet Harvey, the National Chair of Resolution, said:

“In recent years we’ve witnessed a toxic storm where families cannot access professional advice and where people are representing themselves in court often reaching outcomes that are far from amicable.”

Resolution are a network of family justice professionals who seek to find lasting and constructive resolution to separation and divorce issues for parents, couples, families and individuals.
