Family Court Statistics between July and September 2020 show returns to 2019 levels

Ministry of Justice statistics show a minimal change in the number of cases started in the Family Courts.

These statistics show that 68,805 new cases started in Family courts in July to September 2020. This is similar to the same quarter of the previous year, 2019.

The statistics reflect a combination of increases in private law (up 8%), financial remedy (up 5%) and domestic violence remedy case starts (up 26%), alongside decreases in adoption (down 12%) and matrimonial case starts (down 10%).

Private law includes cases brought by private individuals, generally in connection with divorce or parental separation.
