Private family law cases received by Cafcass up by a third
Private law demand is generally used to refer to applications made following a divorce or separation about the arrangements for children.
Private family law applications can include such information as where a child will live or with whom a child will spend time.
Cafcass keeps monthly statistics on private family law cases. In March 2021, Cafcass received 4,659 new private law cases, a rise of 1,282 cases (38.0%) more than the same period in 2020, which was in lockdown.
The family cases concerned involved 6,627 children, which is 1,489 (29.0%) more children than March 2020.
