'Separation contracts:' Bill and Melinda Gates show divorce agreement can be reached without litigation

Is it necessary to go through family courts to divorce?

The Guardian has recently reported Bill and Melinda Gates’ decision to settle out of court ‘reflects a growing trend among divorcing couples in the UK.’

The change in the way couples divorce, settling their affairs without going to court, reflects the number of ways agreement can be reached, without lengthy and stressful court processes. Increased pressure on family courts during the pandemic has also driven the change, according to the Guardian article.

The Gates used a ‘private agreement to divide their assets’ before announcing their divorce.
