New private law cases received by Cafcass rose by 6 per cent

New figures released by Cafcass have shown a rise in probate law cases of 6 percent, as compared to the equivalent period in 2020.

Private law demand is generally used to refer to applications made following a divorce or separation about the arrangements for children. This can include deciding issues such as where a child will live or with whom they will spend time.

Cafcass received a total of 3,539 new private law cases in May 2021 which is 203 cases (6.1 per cent) more than the same period in 2020. These cases involved 5,211 children, which is 80 (1.6 per cent) more children than May 2020.
