New voucher scheme for family mediation

The Law Gazette has reported on a boost of funding to families seeking family mediation as a form of alternative dispute resolution. Mediation and arbitration offer alternatives to going through the family court system.

Five months ago the initial voucher scheme was announced with £1m of initial funding. Now a further £800,000 has been allocated to continue the project with the aim of better allowing families to access alternative dispute resolution services, as well as ease the burden on the backlog in the family court system.

The way the scheme works is that if clients are eligible for vouchers, the family mediator will automatically claim back the contributions from the government.
