Preventing violence against women and girls

The recently report from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) reviewed violence against women and girls in the UK, including how services respond.

This included policing response to VAWG, from prevention work in schools and education to the management of the most dangerous offenders.

While the inspectorate has made several recommendations for immediate improvements to police practices, it concluded that the police cannot tackle VAWG alone and the whole system, including policing, health and education, councils, legal and criminal justice system must take a fundamentally new approach.

The inspectorate said the Government should consider legislating, creating an obligation on all agencies to work together to protect women and girls, in a joined-up approach.

This includes a wrap-around, tailored support for victims.

You can access information on UK safe spaces where you can get support if affected by domestic violence.
