More to do to increase diversity in the legal profession

Results from the SRA (Solicitors Regulation Authority) diversity survey are now published.

The SRA Diversity data shows that diversity within law firms is continuing to slowly improve year-on-year, with smaller firms increasingly more diverse than larger ones.

There is still more to do to increase diversity in the profession. The survey found there was an increase in the proportion of lawyers from an Asian and Mixed/Multiple background, but no change for lawyers from a Black or Other minority ethnic background, which means just a slight increase overall for these groups and no change for White groups.

The survey also collected data to monitor diversities including caring responsibilities, socioeconomic background, age, religion, sexual orientation, disability, sex, ethnicity and gender identity.
