This is of interest in analysing the effect of lockdown and associated pressures of Covid, including financial strains, on divorce and separation numbers.

It has also been suggested that couples wanting to separate will wait until the introduction of the ‘no-fault’ divorce law came into force this April, to prevent the need to find fault and apportion ‘blame’ to one member of the separating couple.

The new law is designed to reduce the emotional stress and acrimony from the divorce process, which it is to be hoped will particularly benefit any children. It will be interesting how the new law effects the numbers of couples seeking divorce or separation, now that they can jointly apply for divorce and need not apportion blame.
