Getting help with domestic abuse

Domestic abuse can be actual or threatened. At Kent and Surrey Family Resolution we offer a safe space for you to share and we will support you.

Domestic abuse is when someone close to you, often your spouse or partner, causes you physical, social, mental, financial or emotional harm.

You should tell your family solicitor if the other parent has threatened you, hurt you physically or sexually, controlled or isolated you or has behaved in an emotionally abusive way towards you. This can involve threats, controlling finances, isolating you.

Many people try to shield children from the abuse my pretending it is not happening, but Resolution states ‘most children are aware of the abuse’. Sadly, as many as 90% of children are in the same room or in the next room when domestic abuse occurs.

If you think you might be in danger, call the police immediately on 999.
