What options there are available to you when ending a relationship and taking back control of the situation

A whole variety of options which can particularly suit your individual situation are possible.
Some paths to consider as alternative to court may be:
-
Mediation - When a mediator will meet with you and your past partner together and will identify those issues you can’t agree on and help you to try and reach agreement.
-
Arbitration - An arbitrator can be appointed by yourself and your past partner. They will make a decision that is final and legally binding between you. This can be related to family issues such as those pertaining to child arrangements, property or finances.
-
Collaborative practice - Each person picks a collaboratively trained lawyer and you and your respective lawyers meet to work things out face to face. Each of you will have your collaborative lawyer by your side for legal advice as you go along.
