Which? Article examines how seven in ten couples do not share pensions on divorce

Pensions can often be overlooked when divorcing or separating. It can be easy to think about splitting the house, finances or other assets. Pensions may seem a more obscure thing to consider, but the implications of not looking at their value can be huge.

A financial divorce settlement is a legally-binding agreement governing how to divide money and assets after a divorce or separation.

Which? surveyed nearly 1000 members in May 2022 who had divorced since the no-fault divorce law was introduced. They found 71% did not include pensions in their financial settlement. They also report this was despite UK courts allowing pension sharing orders since 2000.
