Family Mediation Voucher Scheme

Did you know that you can claim up to £500 towards family mediation costs in some circumstances?

The family mediation voucher scheme is designed to support clients and families who may be able to resolve their family law disputes outside of court.

You can be eligible for legal aid you can still be eligible for a voucher.

Family Mediation outside court can often be quicker, more economical and pits you back in control.

In family courts, a family judge makes the decisions for you about child and financial arrangements. In family mediation this is very different as you and the other person or people decide what you agree to and what you do not agree on. A specially trained professional Mediator can help you do this. When it comes to your children, mediation can help you put your child’s interest first by listening to the voice of the child and your wishes and needs as a family.

Mediation can be less stressful, taking less emotional toll, and far quicker than going to family court. This makes it an efficient way of resolving disagreements and allowing you both to move on with life, crucially for any children involved.

Family Mediation is extremely flexible, which is part of its appeal.

If you do not want to see or be in the same room with the other person or people, you need not be. Mediators can help you find a way to resolve your disagreements without being in direct contact or seeing the other person. Ask about shuttle mediation or working online with different rooms.

If you cannot reach an agreement, you still have the right to go to family court. You can also use family mediation after you made an application to the court. You can revisit family mediation in the future, for instance when your children grow and new arrangements are required.

Mediators are trained to be reflective, discrete, sensitive, empathic, and respectful.

They know well how it can be difficult for separated parents or other family members in dispute to talk to each other and work together to find solutions. Family mediation provides a safe and supported structure to sort out the best arrangements for children, as well as other considerations such as how to divide finances, property, pensions, and money, and where you and your children will live.
